An AI calling agent built for India.
Hinglish on a noisy line, RBI calling hours, data in India. Most voice agents were built for none of it.
What an AI calling agent does
An AI calling agent (also called an AI voice agent or voice bot) places and answers phone calls the way a trained human agent would: it listens, understands what the customer means, looks up the facts in your systems, and replies in a natural voice. Unlike an IVR, there is no menu — the customer just talks.
In Indian enterprises the work is mostly high-volume, repeatable and regulated:
- EMI reminders and early-bucket collections — due amount, UPI link, promise-to-pay captured.
- Insurance renewals — every policyholder called before the grace period.
- KYC and re-KYC — explain what is due, send the V-KYC link, follow up until done.
- Lead qualification — call web leads within a minute and book the advisor.
- COD confirmation and RTO reduction for D2C brands.
- Service and grievance intake — balances, status, tickets with SLA timers.
What India changes
A voice agent that sounds good in an English demo often breaks on its first week of Indian calls. Five things are different here:
1. Customers code-mix
"Mera EMI ka due date kya hai, and can I pay by UPI?" is one sentence in two languages. Numbers, dates and product names switch language mid-word. The agent has to understand and answer in that mix — see Hindi & Hinglish voice AI.
2. The phone line is hard
Narrow-band telephony, crosstalk, hold music, a scooter going past. Speech models trained on clean studio audio lose accuracy fast. We fine-tune on your own call recordings, so the agent learns your customers' actual audio.
3. The regulator is in the call
Collections calls follow the RBI Fair Practices Code — calling hours, tone and disclosure. Insurance calls answer to IRDAI. Promotional calls and SMS run under TRAI rules and DLT templates, and personal data is governed by the DPDP Act. An agent for India needs those rules enforced on every turn, not written in a policy PDF. See security & compliance.
4. Data has to stay here
Banks and insurers increasingly require call audio, transcripts and models to stay in India — often inside their own cloud account or data centre. FormantAI runs in India-region cloud, your private VPC, or on-prem GPUs. See deployment options.
5. Scale and cost decide the business case
The economics only work if the agent handles the long tail of calls without a human, and hands over cleanly when it should. That means grounding every answer in your data, and measuring every call.
Trained on your calls. Checked on every turn.
Sounds like your best agent.
Fine-tuned on your recordings — accent, pace, and numbers the way your customers say them.
Checks before it speaks.
Grounded in account data, your script and the regulator's rules before a word is said.
Better every week.
Graded calls become the next release — regression-tested, human-approved, one-click rollback.
Inside your walls.
India cloud, private VPC or on-prem. Your model, your keys.
Hinglish in. Grounded answer out.
An EMI reminder on an Indian phone line: disclosure first, identity checked, amount read from the loan system, a promise-to-pay date captured.
